OUR CULTURAL CALENDAR
The purpose of the Cultural Calendar is to provide MIRRORS to reflect our children, families and staff and WINDOWS to glimpse into the lives of those who are different from us. By doing so our children learn respect for themselves and others.
It is everyone’s responsibility to actively promote diversity at ECCC. We do this by appreciating and respecting cultures, identities and diverse backgrounds of the children, families and staff that we work with.
It is important to value the knowledge and expertise that our children, families, staff and local community bring. The cultural calendar is designed to support staff to give the children first-hand (or as close as possible) experiences which will have a lasting impact. This will in turn give them the skills to grow up as global citizens of a diverse world.
The children, families and staff should continually see themselves reflected in the environment, in the books that we read and the provocations that we set up, not only at times of cultural celebration.
