Anti-racist practice
A sense of belonging, not just fitting inOur commitment
How we work
Embedded in Our Ethos & Curriculum
Policy, Procedure & Preparation
Our approach to handling discriminatory incidents is clear, caring, and educational — helping affected children feel supported and guiding others to grow in understanding.
We co-wrote BAND’s Anti-Racism Policy, which includes a template and guide for Early Years settings in Bristol.
Leading & Sharing Practice
As an Early Years Anti-Racism Hub, we are recognised for our inclusive practice and are invited to share at local and sector events.
We also deliver training, open study days, and practice-sharing events. These come in the form of presentations, practical workshops at your setting with workbooks or an immersive study session at ECCC with a show around and reflective discussion. We can tailor each session to the needs of the audience.
Reflecting, Auditing & Growing
The Centre co-founded the Bristol Early Years Forum for Anti-Racist Practice, providing a space for professionals to reflect, share challenges, and support one another.
We believe anti-racist work is ongoing. We are developing a Race Equality Toolkit in collaboration with Bristol City Council and partners — a tool to audit our own practices, set targets, and track growth over time.
‘Sense of Belonging,
Not just Fitting in’
Our presentation takes you on an interactive journey to see the impact of honouring a child’s unique sense of self and how this in turn can provide valuable learning opportunities for others. We walk you through the ‘Mirrors and Windows’ approach to practice, and settle into procedures to sustain the wellbeing of children from the global majority. We end on some simple ways to continue your learning and inspiring strategies that you can implement.
