What makes our preschool room special?

Our pre-school room is the largest in the Centre, with capacity for up to 32 children to play and learn in a purpose-built environment. Each room in our Centre is carefully designed alongside our curriculum to meet the needs of the age group. We also continuous adapt the environment and how we work to meet the specific needs of the children with us at the time.

We asked Sash, our Practice Lead at ECCC and a qualified Early Years Teacher, to describe what our pre-school offers.

There is something very special about our preschool at ECCC. Tucked behind a carpark, you wouldn’t know we’re there, but enter in and you’ll find a maze of bright open spaces, a large garden with our beloved mighty Ash tree,  and children engrossed in all types of discovery.

The preschool is home to a Unique and ambitious Centre-wide curriculum which was designed around the question- what does it mean to belong in a community? Children thrive in carefully curated mirrors and windows learning environments. Mirrors, where children see themselves and their own unique experiences represented and reflected back at them, and windows into lives different from their own, opening up new avenues for curiosity, empathy and learning about our diverse world.

The routine of the preschool is a blend of child-lead inquiry in our vast indoor/outdoor provision with some carefully planned adult lead learning in their small key-groups. Group Time’s are planned to implement our curriculum and cultural calendar in a way which is playful, joyful and meaningful for all. Our team are fully  trained and experienced in adapting their teaching to meet the needs of all children and the room’s SENDCo and qualified teacher enhance that provision.

Alongside their daily routine, children access Woodwork, our allotment and pond, their own Library, Forest School and termly trips!
